This year, our nation will mark an important milestone: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We invite you to join us as we reflect on this moment in American history through a special series of programs, exhibits, and educational activities as part of America250.

January 21
From Poland to Patriot: Casimir Pulaski in the American Revolution
March 16
1700s–1800s: Changes for Native Peoples of Wisconsin
May 12
Wisconsin Residents in the Revolutionary War
All programs begin at 6:30pm.

America 250 Exhibits
February
Visit our website for an America250 Portage County Timeline, highlighting local history within the broader national story.
April
An America250 exhibit in the schoolhouse will be featured during students’ One Room Schoolhouse Experience.
This exhibit will open to the general public during Heritage Days.
June
Visit our website for an America250 virtual exhibit, accessible to audiences near and far.

 

America 250 Button Contest
We are hosting a county-wide student button design contest commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Theme:
“What does it mean to be American 250 Years in?”
This project encourages young people to think thoughtfully about our shared history and civic identity.
