Free Family Fridays at Heritage Park

Join us for Family Fridays, from 1-5PM at Heritage Park, a free hands-on summer series filled with engaging themes, interactive activities, and educational fun for the whole family! Each week highlights a different aspect of history, offering a unique opportunity to explore, learn, and play together at the Portage County Historical Society.

June 20 – Communication
Discover how people stayed in touch before smartphones! Try your hand at Morse code, postcard writing, and more.

June 27 – Agriculture
Step into the shoes of early farmers—explore tools, planting techniques, and local plants.

July 11 – Music
Make some noise! Learn about historical instruments, try your rhythm skills, and enjoy toe-tapping tunes.

July 18 – Circus
Experience the magic of the big top with circus history and activities.

July 25 – Education
Take a seat in a historic classroom! Write with calligraphy pens, solve old-fashioned math problems, and learn like kids once did.

August 1 – Historical Home Life
From laundry day to cooking over a fire, explore daily life in a 19th-century home.

August 8 – Commerce & Trade
Play shopkeeper for a day and learn how goods were bought, sold, and bartered long ago.

August 15 – Historic Tradeskills
See the tools of the trade! Learn about blacksmithing and other hands-on skills from the past.

August 22 – Travel
All aboard! Explore the ways people traveled before cars and planes—wagons, trains, and more.
